2. Vitamin B-6 Blood Test

This test measures the vitamin B6 levels in the blood to help screen for a deficiency or excess. The more protein eaten, the more vitamin B6 is needed. Vitamin B6 helps break down proteins, maintains normal nerve functioning and helps formation of red blood cells. Excess vitamin B6 can cause neurological disorders and numbness as seen in some liver phlegm differentiations in Chinese medicine. These hormones are responsible for regulating a variety of important biochemical reactions, such as protein synthesis. Low iodine levels are noticed especially in females and are involved in menstrual difficulties, excessive weight gain and hair loss. In Chinese medicine, low iodine levels are associated with spleen deficiency, dampness and phlegm which contributes to body coldness, water and fat weight gain, neurological disturbances involving the limbs and some emotional symptoms.
